    Hip Replacement Surgery

Hip Replacement Surgery involves the removal of damaged or deteriorated bone and cartilage in the hip and replacing it with prosthetic materials.

During this Minimally Invasive Procedure, one or more small incisions are made into the thigh. Once the incisions are made, the damaged femoral head (top portion of the thigh bone) is removed and replaced with a metal stem that is placed into the center of the bone.

Next, A metal or ceramic ball is placed on the upper part of the stem. This ball replicates the natural function of the femoral head. Next, the damaged cartilage on the surface of the hip socket is trimmed and shaped so a metal cup can be implanted. Screws or cement may be used to secure the new socket.

Last, a ceramic or metal spacer is inserted between the new ball and the socket to allow for a smooth gliding surface that replicates the natural anatomic motion of the hip.
